why is the text on some website(such as kernel.org) unreadable in konqueror at the default font size?

the problem i was having(the may be others) was that the websites were specifying a utf-8 character encoding, konqueror defaults to iso8859-1, and when it encounters utf uses some bizare font that is only readable at a very large size. The fix for this is to go into konqueror configuration, go to the "konqueror browser" section, go to the "appearance" tab, and check "Enforce default Encoding charset". The correct thing to do would be to specify a different font for pages using utf-8 encoding, but i can't find a way to do that.
