What is the slashdot amnesia phenomenon?

The slashdot amnesia phenomenon applies to all message boards or information on the internet. It isn't limited to the internet, but it's much easier for you to fall prey to it online.


So what is it?

It's when you read about something you don't know, you think the people on the forum know what they are talking about. You listen to them. But then when you do know anything authoritative, on any subject, in a different forum or thread of the same site, you think they are entirely wrong. Then you go back to reading other forums or other threads on the same media outlet site (such as slashdot) and forget about how wrong most of the entire site might be if you had more of a clue.
