why does my 802.11g network seem to die around Uniden 2.4ghz phones?

It dies because Uniden sells cordless phones that double as crappy jammers. They're easy to get around but annoying none the less.

You're unlucky but not entirely out of luck if you have some sort of Uniden cordless phone in your house. These phones are terrible with regard to sharing the unlicensed 2.4GHz spectrum.

If your wireless network is on 'Channel 1' (2.412 GHz), you'll notice that anytime someone picks up that terrible phone, your connection drops and the network just vanishes.

The easy solution is to switch to 'Channel 10' (2.457 GHz) and you'll find that you're safe from the Uniden phone.

Don't try to fight the Uniden, it won't give up, it will triumph. Just switch the channel your AP uses and everyone will be happy.

(This is specifically for the model: EXI4246C)
