Ioanid I pressed him a little harder on the point and he said the following: th University of Bucharest really sucks, when it comes to computer equipment and Internet access. The Polytechnical Institute is much better off; they've had Internet-of-sort for three years now; started with 8086's but have AT's now. It is true that the pits (286... 386sx) count as top-of-the-line in Romania, or many parts of Eastern Europe for that matter. It is unwise, however, to donate to individuals. (With a casual reflex that I found truly admirable and a genuine sign of being an Eastern European, he suggested that those guys [one of them he thinks he knows] are not wholly unlikely to sell what they receive -- or sell the old 8086 to their fellow men, or some deal like that.) If you donate, donate to organizations instead of individuals.
