It's 95% completed, and only has accurate information, I hope. Since it's a grievous 870 lines, I won't include it below; but let me quote its table of contents: 1. News and discussion groups in English 1.1 News from the Open Media Research Institute 1.2 News from Central Europe Today 1.3 The Hungary Report 1.4 Mozaik 1.5 On USENET 1.6 'Hungary', the BITNET listserver at George Washington University 2. News and discussion groups in Hungarian 2.1 HIX 2.2 Other discussion groups 3. Interactive services 3.1 What's available on the World Wide Web 3.2 Gopher and other interactive services 4. The Net in Hungary 4.1 BITNET/HUEARN 4.2 HUNGARNET 4.3 FidoNet 4.4 Finding out somebody's email address 5. Odds and ends 5.1 Traveling with a computer in Hungary 5.2 Conventions for coding Hungarian accents 5.3 Information sources about the rest of Central and Eastern Europe 6. Contributors to this FAQ It is available from Zoltan Fekete (fekete@bc.edu) and many depositories on the Internet. If you think it needs improvement, do not hesitate a moment to contact Zoli and bug him (which is what I did :). If he's too busy to implement the changes, do not hesitate to snag the file from 'im, edit it yourself, and pass it back to his keeping (which is what I did :). I tried to create a layout that makes such maintenance easy. commercial.FAQ, an overview of Hungarian providers of on-line services, attempts to answer the naive user's query: "I'm in Hungary, but, hell, how do I get to the Internet in the first place? And I'm paying for it, too; anything I should be aware of?". At this point, the file is not much beyond a partial list of contact information about ELLA, CompuServe, EUnet, DataNet, ProNet, iSYS, Internet Hungary, and MagNet and other BBS's. I am very much of the view that there is (more precisely, there'll be) a great need for such a file to circulate; the idea is that satisfied or unsatisfied users will be able to contact the FAQ maintainer and add their 2 (or many) cents' worth to the description or evaluation of each provider. Also, a slot is reserved in each section for the firm to introduce itself. John Horvath (jhorv@mars.iif.hu) has kindly volunteered to maintain this FAQ. I'll have much less time for email during the rest of the summer, so I'm signing off HOL -- just to make sure I never do get entangled in threads of narcissistic discussion :(. I'll remain available at tbeke@mit.edu except for minor interruptions. I'll spend next month at the Santa Fe Institute (that I was so gleefully bashing the other day :->, and the latter half of the summer amongst my native tribe of Magyars, in their land of (I am told) sunshine, sharks, computer geeks, and beauteous women.
