And so it begins ... Folks, the message you received was a spam, commercial message broadcast to Internet users regardless of the intended topic of conversation. This list is intended for distribution of hungary-online, a twice-monthly column I publish in the Budapest Business Journal. The list is also for discussion concerning the development of Internet in Hungary. I've deliberated left the list unmoderated, which means that anyone can step in with their comments. That's because I'd like to offer a forum for informed dialogue. However this also leaves the list open to an occasional spam. I'm glad to see Tourinform is on the net. And I don't want to point an accusing finger at the sender. I'm sure the sender doesn't know this was a spam, or what that even means. Here's a good metaphor: An Internet discussion group, like this, can be compared to a group of people talking at a party. Somebody who wants to join the conversation usually steps up to the group. He waits, watches and listens to what the group is discussing. When he sees his opportunity he then jumps in with a funny story or news related to the topic. I'd like to encourage Tourinform to tell us a bit more. For example, who actually posted this message? I'm like to know whoever's promoting the site, and what success s/he's having. I just had a look at the site . It's very well produced. What kind of traffic is it getting? I'm also curious about whether Tourinform is prepared to answer questions from the net, or add interactivity to the site. I've always found the office friendly and helpful over the telephone. Those are the questions I can think of. I'd like to ask one more thing: please post your response to . Hungary-Online-Announce is meant mainly for people who want to receive my column, and don't want to take part in discussion.
