##From: Steven Alexander ##Subject: WSC Report after game 7 ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 06:01:17 -0500 (EST) Edley/Sherman was 182-263, with UNWiSELY, LEASURE, AMUSIvE IMAGINE SANGAREE on the board w/7 plays, 212-331 DEPORTED after 9. Ended 381-577 after additional INTEGER. Sim/Byers catches up to 183-174 with INFARES. Thorogood/Williams 172-294 opened with ZINEB, has SHIFtED, COSTIVE HYMENaL Nyman/Warusawitharana, opened by Nyman with MEAnIES, is 165-122 after FALCONET, TROUBLER, rOYALISE, but W overtakes him to finish 394-474. At table #1, Pollock/Polatnick, early on has EDGIEST, SMOTHER and looks like a blowout at 238-99. Pollock has SADWIFE. Later, Polatnick has gotten to 329-302, then 366-350, himself on move holding BULTRG? on a closed board, Pollock WIFENET. At 392-368, Polatnick is still holding ? in G?RL. The final is 388-379, with :26 and :09 on their clocks. Pollock stays undefeated. Lipton/Nditeru has S?EEPRY on the board, which the official standby player (from the UK) and the US alternate (me) don't figure out. The tournament director knows, however, that it's an L. The word authority, the editor of Chambers, overhearing, notes the same and that it's Scots. MINIATED and later DISARRAY to o15 are also on. Avrin/Awowade overdraw, and the director informs them that it's the opponent's choice of whether to take a random tile from among the newly drawn tiles or all 8. At the end of their game, a tile which they earlier saw and the floor and both thought wasn't theirs they conclude is. Can they put it back; can they know what it is? The Director rules no, and comments "They aren't having it back!" Norr/Springer at 314-196, could Springer challenge (ZAIRE) minutes into his turn? Norr notes she'd already drawn tiles. The simple ruling is that since Springer had written the score, there can be no challenge. Logan/Sigley at 423-348 has TINTERS, OLEATES, UNsAVED, ELEGIAC (later pluralized) and JAILERS. Romany/Willis opened by Romany with STARTER. From his rack of GIIINNO the word to make the first two plays STARTER, IGNITION. He later takes BE down to h15 for BESTRIDES. at 394-522, Romany `went out', only to have Willis point out that a D was unaccounted for, whereupon Romany took it from the bag. (The director was not called, though Willis also didn't have full rack.) Boys/Grant, 339-405 has GREISEN, LOURIeR, AzOTISE, ACCEDING. ZEMSTVA is a nonbingo. Appleby/Felt has INdUCIAE, INTROITS, REmOTELy for a final of 479-319. The prize for high game was not won by Willis at 537, but by Sherman at 577, with 5 bonuses, 4 of them in a row. The round 6 prize, for obscure word, was won by Khoshnaw (an OSW native) for GRAVIDA. The runner up (in the Director's mind) was AMORISM (by an OSPD native). ##From: Steven Alexander ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 05:59:04 -0500 (EST) WSC Player table after round 7 Posn Code Name Score Spread Points 1 10 Robin Pollock 7 582 3050 2 58 Bob Lipton 6 605 2995 3 34 Jeff Grant 6 428 2998 4 17 Allan Saldanha 6 345 3063 5 7 David Boys 5 478 3041 6 39 Sammy Okosagah 5 459 3242 7 62 Joel Sherman 5 385 3131 8 3 Bob Jackman 5 365 2823 9 29 Gitonga Nderitu 5 351 2864 10 8 Adam Logan 5 343 2913 38 59 Johnny Nevarez 3 -41 2554 52 63 Jeff Widergren 2 -13 2680 ##From: Steven Alexander ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 07:10:29 -0500 (EST) WSC Player table after round 8 Posn Code Name Score Spread Points 1 58 Bob Lipton 7 696 3398 2 10 Robin Pollock 7 541 3389 3 34 Jeff Grant 7 469 3378 4 7 David Boys 6 541 3475 5 62 Joel Sherman 6 482 3630 6 29 Gitonga Nderitu 6 441 3316 7 3 Bob Jackman 6 413 3192 8 8 Adam Logan 6 387 3339 9 17 Allan Saldanha 6 254 3375 10 39 Sammy Okosagah 5 369 3604 42 63 Jeff Widergren 3 134 3123 49 59 Johnny Nevarez 3 -205 2847 ##From: Steven Alexander ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 07:12:29 -0500 (EST) Pollock/Grant Pollock's first reply is BENDWAYS. Score is 71-106, then 176-215. The board has AdNOUNS, SCARLETS RHODIES. It also has LIMNAEID, which was at first ruled unacceptable by an adjudicator who read it as LIENAEID (though it looked like an M to me). Just before this round, players were implored to write legibly. 324-363 as L dumps QAT for 12. Pollock has LIRTEXT, Lipton ROTTEES. 355-363 as Pollock plays off EX, gets ALIRTT?. 380-417 as Pollock has :17 on her clock. 385-415 final, with :13 on her clock. Romany/Holmes has STRONGS, FEATING. Logan plays SERVANtS thru an E, hooking the adjacent S, 246-191. Next, Logan simultaneously challenges PEAKISH thru the other S and corrects its score 51->57; it's now 303-191. Later, it's 419-301 after SCIMITAR and QUAvERED. Norr/Kuroda Norr catches up with GLARIEST, 221-202; then she is behind 303-364. After SNIFTERs a6, Norr tries sEMIpOLY (remembering it for POLYSEMY). Bhandarkar/Warusawitharana Bhandarkar plays TRAVElOg h8 hooking R to go 312-377. An official is called to determine that there's 1 in the bag. Edley/Fisher opens with 4 bingos including MIAOWED, FEATLIER and ENSIgNS, and ends 388-357. Sim/Fernando Fernando opened with LITOTE, unchallenged and no responsive bingo. Sherman/Nditeru Sherman opens with BESLAVE, features LUNGYIS 15f below QU..., to the surprise of Nditeru, for a final of 425-409. Canadians are now 29-16, having gone only 7-8 for the morning. ##From: Steven Alexander ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 12:06:31 -0500 (EST) WSC Player table after round 9 Posn Code Name Score Spread Points 1 58 Bob Lipton 8 753 3840 2 7 David Boys 7 591 3982 3 62 Joel Sherman 7 498 4055 4 10 Robin Pollock 7 484 3774 5 34 Jeff Grant 7 388 3742 6 17 Allan Saldanha 7 335 3820 7 29 Gitonga Nderitu 6 425 3725 8 3 Bob Jackman 6 363 3649 9 8 Adam Logan 6 236 3685 10 11 Joel Wapnick 6 234 3698 47 57 Robert Felt 4 -283 3458 49 63 Jeff Widergren 3 98 3504 55 59 Johnny Nevarez 3 -347 3171 ##From: Steven Alexander ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 13:16:45 -0500 (EST) WSC Player table after round 10 Posn Code Name Score Spread Points 1 58 Bob Lipton 8 739 4240 2 7 David Boys 8 642 4385 3 62 Joel Sherman 8 512 4469 4 17 Allan Saldanha 8 422 4240 5 29 Gitonga Nderitu 7 630 4183 6 10 Robin Pollock 7 397 4107 7 11 Joel Wapnick 7 363 416 8 34 Jeff Grant 7 337 4094 9 8 Adam Logan 7 332 4122 10 5 Akshay Bhandarkar 7 300 3963 38 57 Robert Felt 5 -212 3871 41 63 Jeff Widergren 4 152 3961 59 59 Johnny Nevarez 3 -401 3574 ##From: Steven Alexander ##Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 13:28:39 -0500 (EST) WSC Player table after round 11 Posn Code Name Score Spread Points 1 58 Bob Lipton 9 931 4774 2 7 David Boys 9 916 4927 3 29 Gitonga Nderitu 8 649 4588 4 10 Robin Pollock 8 586 4613 5 34 Jeff Grant 8 420 4577 6 62 Joel Sherman 8 238 4737 7 17 Allan Saldanha 8 230 4582 8 55 Brian Cappelletto 7 535 4619 9 13 Phil Appleby 7 504 4767 10 5 Akshay Bhandarkar 7 281 4349 26 57 Robert Felt 6 -16 4399 36 63 Jeff Widergren 5 281 4459 51 59 Johnny Nevarez 4 -82 4159
