			<comment><![CDATA[After shopping at the handicraft center, we had lunch at a hole-in-wall udon place.  They did not have a highchair, so we used a bar chair for Niles instead.  The hunchback owner of the restaurant was very friendly with Niles.]]></comment>

			<comment><![CDATA[Niles loved udon, and he learned how to slurp it (considered appropriate in Japan), too.  All the nice ceramic bowls and dishes had unique patterns.]]></comment>

			<comment><![CDATA[We discovered this children's playground right across from our hotel.  It is right next to the two art musuems as well as Heian Jingu.  In fact you can see the red gate of Heian Jingu in the background.]]></comment>

<p>Speaking of vending machines, they are at every street corner and every
subway station.  Not just for beverages, but also cigarette, beer, etc.  No
wonder there are so many smokers :(</p>

			<comment><![CDATA[In the afternoon, we set out to get lost in Kyoto, i.e. just to wander around without pre-set destination.]]></comment>

			<comment><![CDATA[Our first stop was at this tiny store that sells all kinds of traditional Kyoto sweets.  These are like fruit perserve wrapped in sticky rice pancake.]]></comment>

			<comment><![CDATA[As we continued our aimless stroll in the late afternoon, we stumbled upon the Kamo River.  Many local people were enjoying the cool water and nice breeze on both sides of the river.]]></comment>

			<comment><![CDATA[We did not opt for the fancy places for dinner.  Instead, we had a Kyoto-style dinner at a simple restaurant right next door to our hotel.  The food was absolutely delicious.  We had our own tatami room.  The challenge was to keep Niles away from the hot food on the low dinner table, but he kept himself busy with the sliding door...]]></comment>
