What is PLC ?

PLC is an abbreviation for "Powerline Communication". You will also find the terms PLT ("Powerline Transmission") and BPL ("Broadband Powerline") having the same meaning.

The power supply network is used for transferring Internet-specific data. One connection can be used by about 400 users and everyone of them is able to read communication data of all others at the same calbe.

Data is transferred over ordinary circuit lines. The used frequency range is between 1MHz and 30MHz. This range is also called "Shortwave Radio" (see also What is shortwave radio?).

Actually, circuit lines are not suitable for high-frequency data transfer. As those lines do not have any electromagnetical shield, they act like an antenna and radiate interferences.
