She was a San Francisco Legend.
Peter Pasquale calls her a "living history book on San Francisco."
John Gilmore describes her as "part of the 'background radiation' of culture in SF".

Nana Second was a great Friend of the Yak since the mid 1990s.

We probably first met her at 2600 gatherings in San Francisco. She attended most (all?) of our Yak Events and Parties, often coming down to the Yak House in Mountain View, California. She always had a place in the Yak Suite at Defcon. She used nana@yak.net as her primary email address for the past two decades. (She also had yak email addresses k, kaye, ratlady, nsecond, tomas, tomaselgrande, and rory. I think Tomas and Rory were two of her rats.)

Nana was always present at everything that was going on. She held a place of repspect in our circles. Although quiet, she was usually talking quietly with someone, inviting people to other events, sharing flyers, and enlarging our circles. She often added facts or history or context to a story someone else was telling. And if you were being hypocritical or unjust or bigoted, even in ways you didn't realize, she could quietly point out the other side of the issue, without being preachy or embarrassing you.
